  The Chopta Valley      

The trip in the Chopta Valley, located in the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttarakhand, is set to walk one through picturesque villages, virgin forests and ‘Bugyals’ (meadows) to the revered holy shrines - Tungnath and Chandrashila.

The valley is home to the rare and the beautiful ‘Monal’ (pheasant), ‘Kastoori Hiran’ (musk deer) and the elusive leopards along with a variety of other wildlife. The locale offers amazing views of the Himalayan range, including the Gangotri and Bhagirathi group of peaks, KedarDome, Chaukhamba, Hathi Parbat, Dhunagiri and the Nanda Devi group of peaks. It is situated amidst thick forest of pine, deodar and rhododendrons with an altitude ranging from 2400 mts–4060 mts.

Also featured in the trip, white water rafting in Rishikesh - a rush of adrenaline to start the trip; night stay at Deoriya Tal, high altitude lake with a beautiful panoramic view; and one night at Camp Ganga Riviera - a camp site on the banks of the Holy Ganga - perfect relaxation after the ride and hike.

Day 1: Rishikesh
(Elevation: 372m/1,220ft)
The trip starts in the morning at Rishikesh. We check in to our rooms and prepare ourselves to face some of the best white water rapids in the Holy Ganga! Post rafting we spend a relaxed evening in Rishikesh, preparing for the journey ahead.
Day 2: Rishikesh - Devprayag - Srinagar - Rudraprayag - Chopta
(Distance: 70km/30km/35km/85km – 220km; Travel Time: 7-8 hrs;
Elevation: Devprayag– 830m / 2,723ft, Chopta - 2,800m /9,200ft)
Departure from Rishikesh at 6am, begin the first day of riding. Crossing the small settlements of Shivpuri-Byasi-Kaudiyala, we reach Devprayag, where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers meet to form the starting point of the river Ganga! From here we proceed to Srinagar and then Rudraprayag, where the Mandakini river flowing from the glaciers around Kedarnath meets with the Alaknanda river. From here we start the beautiful uphill ride to Chopta where we spend the night.
Day 3: Chopta - Sari - Deoriyatal
(Distance: 30km, 3 km uphill on foot; Travel Time: 3-4 hrs;
Elevation: Deoriyatal – 2,438 m / 8,000 ft)
Leave from our guest house post breakfast and to Sari village for the first of our hikes - to Deoriyatal with its mesmerising views of the range of peaks around Kedarnath. Overnight by lake.
Day 4: Deotiyatal - Sari - Chopta
(Distance: 3km on foot, 30km; Travel Time: 3-4 hrs;
Elevation: Chopta– 2,800m / 9,200ft)
After breakfast and a morning by the lake, with unforgettable views of the sunrise, we walk back to Sari village and from there to the settlement of Chopta. For the nature and photography enthusuasts, we offer the option of a beautiful 8km hike on the forest path traversing across the valley from the lake to Chopta where we spend the night.
Day 5: Chopta - Tungnath - Chandrashila - Chopta
(Distance: 3.5km/1.5km/5km – 10km hike; Travel Time: 5-6 hrs;
Elevation: Tungnath: 3,680m/12,073ft, Chandrashila: 4,060m/13,320ft)
Start the hike from Chopta early morning to Tungnath, highest of the Panch Kedars, and then to Chandrashila, the pinnacle of the trip with panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks. On a clear day, one can see a whole view from the Nanda Devi to the east to the Gangotri group of peaks on the west. We spend the rest og the day at the top, a treat for photographers and nature lovers, then hike back to Chopta by the evening for our overnight stay.
Day 6: Chopta - Camp Ganga Riviera
(Distance: 180km; Travel Time: 7-8 hrs)
Start the ride early morning from Chopta, downhill back toward Rishikesh. We stop at Devprayag to visit the confluence of the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers where the Holy Ganga is formed and head on to Camp Ganga Riviera, where we warm ourselves by a bonfire, enjoy a barbeque and relax after the journey. Overnight at camp in tents.
Day 7: Camp Ganga Riviera
A full day at camp. We have the choice of relaxing at the pristine beaches on the banks of the Ganga, or enjoying the wide range of activities on offer at the camp. Activities include kayaking, cliff jumping, swimming, volleyball, a hike to a waterfall and leisurely walks around the surrounding forests. Another stretch of rafting cann also be arranged on request.
Day 8: Camp Ganga Riviera - Rishikesh
(Distance: 40km, Travel Time: 2-3 hrs)
Head out from camp after a leisurely morning to end the trip at Rishikesh. Open option to extend with n overnight stay either at camp or at Rishikesh. Arrangements for onward journeys can be made on request.
